We are a group of experienced dairy goat breeders dedicated to enhancing the breed of dairy goats in New Zealand by importing Nigerian Dwarf goats from Australia and utilizing a variety of standard-sized dairy breeds as our foundation stock. Currently, direct imports from the USA to New Zealand are not feasible. Alongside the New Zealand-bred goats from our foundation stock, we also offer goats boasting 100% American purebred genetics. Since the Nigerian Dwarf breed was developed in America, these American genetics represent the purest lineage available worldwide. All Nigerian Dwarfs bred by members of our association will be microchipped for identification purposes. Breeding does (females) and bucks (males) registered with the NZ Dairy Goat Breeders Association (NZDGBA) will undergo DNA testing to verify their identities, confirm their parentage, and ensure the accuracy of their NZDGBA pedigree documents. We invite you to explore our gallery to view details of our NZ-bred Nigerian Dwarfs and their Australian parents, all of which include American genetics. Our breeders are located across both the North and South Islands. For your convenience, commercial transport is available to all areas of New Zealand for the miniature milking goats starting from just 10 days old.

The Nigerian Dwarf Breed has been developed in the USA from West African imports of the 20th century, serving as a miniature milking breed. Their coat can display any color or pattern, with eyes that can be blue, brown, or gold, erect ears, and a dished face. The Nigerian Dwarf goat is suitable as a pet or as a milking animal for smaller lifestyle blocks, and commercial farmers often cross them with other dairy goats in New Zealand to enhance milk solids and ensure safe kidding for their young does. Known for their gentle, lively, and affectionate personalities, these miniature milking goats reach a maximum mature wither height of 60 cm for purebred males and 57 cm for females. Despite their

The adult  purebred Nigerian Dwarf  maximum  height(withers) is 60cm for a buck and 57cm for a doe.  This is 60% of the height and a thjrd of the weight of a standard sized NZ dairy goat

A few purebred Nigerian Dwarfs bred in Australia from imported US purebred embryos and semen have been imported into NZ. US genetic material cannot be directly imported into NZ Over the last 10 years our breeders have been breeding Australian imported Nigerian Dwarf bucks to NZ standard height dairy goats. Currently we do have a limited number of  NZ Purebred  Nigerian Dwarfs available as well as a selection of different  grade or Appendix NZ Nigerian Dwarf> Appendix Dwarf goats are a work in progress  at various  levels of being graded up to Purebred status. In future

They are similar in personality, temperament and  general conformation traits . However in weight and size below Appendix B they are larger, reflecting the genetic contribution of NZ standard height dairy goats. The mature height of an Appendix NZ Nigerian Dwarf will depend on the level and strength of it's Nigerian Dwarf genetics  and will  usually be somewhere between the heights of both its parents.

NZ Appendix Nigerian dwarfs are priced to reflect the level of Nigerian Dwarf genetics , age and gender.  Prices for  Spring/Summers Nigerian Dwarf wethers(neutered males) will be from $250 each. Does(females) are priced higher than wethers. Purebred Nigerian Dwarf goats because of their scarcity in NZ are priced  above $1500

Please allow an approximate area of 1/4 acre for 2 Nigerian Dwarf goats.  At times of normal  food shortage ,(winter and summer) be prepared to buy in hay or other feed to supplement the grazing. The time commitment and cost of buying in food,  required for zero grazing(small grazing areas) makes it an impractical option for most people.

Goat kids are highly intelligent, friendly, energetic, adventurous, athletic and small, as they grow they can be very destructive of trees and gardens:

Fencing must be of an excellent standard and appropriate. Standard 8 wire fencing will not contain these small animals. Modifications to fencing that include mesh will be needed for young animals. Other modifications to fencing will be required as the kids grow. This may include electric outrigger wires.

The goats will require regular foot trimming, vaccinations and worming as they grow. Also prompt veterinary attention for illness and injury. A healthy, cared for goat has a life expectancy of 8 to 12 years. Goats also require shelter in the form of housing

If you don't want to breed, and/or live close to neighbours, wethers(neutered males) make the best pets. As they are affectionate and  don't smell or have noisy estrous cycles in the autumn. Goats are herd animals and need goat companions. One goat  kept on its own is unhappy and mischievous

Yes NZ Nigerian Dwarfs does and bucks can be registered with the NZ Dairy Goat Breeder Association(NZDGBA). Registration entitles you to  pedigree documents and to exhibit your Nigerian dwarfs at  NZ A&P shows

All Nigerian Dwarfs bred by members of our association will be microchipped. Breeding does and bucks registered with the NZDGBA will also be DNA tested to establish their identity and confirm the identity of their parents and accuracy of their pedigree

There are diseases that can be spread  by  natural mating.  Semen straws  are available to artificially inseminate does.  Before a natural mating can occur does  nust be  blood tested  clear of CAE. Nigerian Dwarf Bucks are not widely available at stud in NZ
